Bahorok River, Bukit Lawang, Sumatra, Indonesia
When you have been on the road for seven months, you sometimes just need to have a bit of fun. We stayed four nights in Bukit Lawang,a small tourist village at the bank of Bahorok River in North Sumatra province of Indonesia.
Most people come here to go trekking in the jungle and see the monkeys and orangutans (which of course we did!), but our main concern was taking advantage of the Bahorok River and having a bit of fun!

River Surfing

Bekki riding a tube down the river. Our parents will not understand!
After a long day hiking through the jungle with our awsome guide Dedi, it was time to go back to Bukit Lawang, but in style. Dedi's little brother and a friend of his had hiked up the river, carrying inner tubes, and built us a hardy raft to make the trip home!
We spent an entire afternoon tubing the Bahorok River, walking up then tubing down.
The local boys and girls have made a really cool way to take a shower (seriously!) and have a good time in the process. They take out this wooden surf-board into the middle of the river, soap themselves down, and rinse off in the current. John gave it a try, but was still learning to stand on the board and did not attempt to bath.
