Myamar offers some of the most compelling images since we started travelling. We have put together a two part selection of photos from our travels. Part 1 begins with Yangun, Mawlamyaing, our trek from Kalaw to Inle Lake and then the lake itself.

Travelling through Myanmar requires one to be a bit daring when it comes to getting from place to place. Trains are rare, slow and bumpy; buses often run at inconvenient hours and can be worse than the trains; and responsible travelers should forget about taking a plane as these are costly and are usually owned by companies with close ties to the government.

Part 1: Le train birman en troisième classe
Pour trois Dollars, nous sommes partis en train de His-Paw à Pyin Oo Lwin. Comfort minimal – divertissement au max.
Part 2: Blick auf die Gokteikbruecke
Was fuer eine Aussicht. Aber ich glaube kein Foto und kein Video kann dieser Aussicht gerecht warden.

After an 8 hour hike into the mountainous heart of Shan State, not too far from the city of Hsipaw, we decided an evening of rest and recreation was in store with our friends Kolja and Manu and our guide, the Lion Man. Rice wine and card tricks transformed this into an interesting evening. Great way to kick off 2014!

Who said dirt cannot float?
We took a boat tour of Inle lake with a very cool independent guide named Nyu Nyu. She took us to see one of the famous floating gardens of Inle Lake. These things actually do float!
