We came to Pulau Banyak looking for a paradise well off of the beaten path. We found it on the coral island of Tailana.

However, paradise does have its drawbacks... after awhile you start running out of things to do and look for alternatives.

We managed to transform the region into a contender for the position of world capital of hermit crab racing!

Here is a special crab cake to celebrate John's Niece's birthday.

Horas! and Welcome to the Silimalombu Eco-Village in the heart of Lake Toba, Sumatra. We spent ten days volonteering on this organic farm, where we not only learned a ton about farming, but also a lot about the Lake Toba region and Batak culture.

This video gives a short tour of the farm including its founders, and gives a general insight to like here in Lake Toba. If you want to learn more about the farm, check out www.laketoba.net.

When you have been on the road for seven months, you sometimes just need to have a bit of fun. We stayed four nights in Bukit Lawang,a small tourist village at the bank of Bahorok River in North Sumatra province of Indonesia.

Most people come here to go trekking in the jungle and see the monkeys and orangutans (which of course we did!), but our main concern was taking advantage of the Bahorok River and having a bit of fun!

If you head over to Sumatra one day, get out of Medan as fast as possible and head over to Bukit Lawang where there are tons of things two see and do, among them, see some of our hairy cousins, the Orangutans, in their natural environment.

This post has two videos. One showing us how the Orangutans do it in the wild and the other showing us their feeding style.

Compilation of photos from our time on Lombok, Flores and Komodo Islands.

After nine months in Asia we wanted to spend our last nine days doing something a bit different and that included sun, sea and fun. Surfing was the best choice. We checked into a hotel in Kute Lombok and spent nine days exploring the areas beaches, waves, food and scenery.

PS: the board John is holding in this photo for this page was not his. He used a purple beginner board like Bekki's. He just borrowed someone else's board so that he would look cooler in the photo.

Saying hello in Indonesian can be a bit complicated. There is good early morning, good morning good afternoon, good evening, and good night. When you do not know the time of day, you can get a bit mixed up.

But there is no better place than to figure out how to say hello in Indonesian than from the top of Kelimutu, a volcano on Flores island, Indonesia. This volcano has three lakes, each of a different color, and all three are spectacular.

Riung, on Flores island is famous for a group of 17 small islands just off the coast where visitors can view some superb wildlife. We took a few minutes to seek out the Flying Foxes, a bat of the Pteropus genus, the largest bat species in the world. These things are really cool to see flying.

How on earth did we end up in this place? Nio village is a tiny town of about 200 residents, set deep back in a valley near the Gunung Inerie volcano on Flores island, Indonesia.  Basically, we met a man named Moses in the town of Bajawa who works for an NGO that runs schools in the area. As the sponsers from Australia were in for a visit, Moses offered to drop us off here while the sponsors did their tour of the different schools.

So we hopped in the back of Moses' truck and ended up spending the day hanging out with all of the children in the village, sleept in the main room of a traditional house, visited the school and were even accompanied by some of the local boys down to some of the most amazing hot springs we have ever seen.

Check out the photos, this place is a trip!

Locals on Komodo Island can enjoy some of the best food in Indonesia at this wonderful restaurant. But what is most interesting here is how they dispose of the garbage. Check it out!
